Botanical Inventory Methods and Techniques

This is an introduction to botanical inventory methods for cataloging the vascular plants in a natural landscape. During the first session, you will learn the essential steps of planning a survey, including use of field guides, aerial photography, GIS (Geographic Information Systems) resources, and sampling strategies. You will also learn about designing a field-data form. You will go on to practice these methods by conducting a field survey in a natural area, identifying and recording the plant species and habitats. Finally, you will have an opportunity to work collaboratively to compile the inventory and present a report.
