Memorial Forest

Join Laura Mattei, Director of Conservation at Sudbury Valley Trustees, for a behind-the-scenes exploration of Memorial Forest, 75 acres of which were burned in spring 2025 as part of a broader habitat restoration project on the 900-acre Desert Natural Area. Learn more about how prescribed burns like this one can restore habitat that supports many declining and threatened species of wildlife, including whip-poor-will and Eastern towhee birds, frosted elfin butterflies, and wild lupine plants. Observe some of the early impacts of burning, and hear about the next phase of SVT’s work. This program is co-sponsored by Sudbury Valley Trustees.

Note: Fire Ecology 101 is a prerequisite for participants in this field study.
