Chapin Field Study

Join Dan Jaffe Wilder, director of Applied Ecology at Norcross Wildlife Foundation, for a behind-the-scenes exploration of Norcross’s spring 2025 burning of 28+ acres of historically fire-adapted pitch pine and scrub oak barrens. Discover how prescribed burns like this one can restore balance to vulnerable ecosystems by reducing invasives, allowing the return of rare plant species, and lowering the risk of wildfires. Learn about Norcross’s preparation for this work, including collaboration with key partners, and walk through both burned and unburned areas to examine the impacts. This program is co-sponsored by Norcross Wildlife Foundation.

Note: Fire Ecology 101 is a prerequisite for participants in this field study.
