The Buttercup Family (Ranunculaceae)
Using a powerpoint presentation and a close look at herbarium specimens, this 2-part class will cover all of the native and a number of the introduced members of the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae) that grow in natural habitats in New England. In addition to the “true” buttercups (Ranunculus), buttercup family genera that will be discussed include baneberry (Actaea), anemone (Anemone), columbine (Aquilegia), marsh marigold (Caltha), clematis (Clematis), goldenseal (Hydrastis ), meadow rue (Thalictrum), and globeflower (Trollius), a varied and strikingly beautiful group of wildflowers.
