Making Pictures from Plants: Introducing the Anthotype
In this in-person workshop we will create anthotypes—plant-based images made from the light-sensitive characteristics of plants. We will use petals, leaves, and berries to prepare colorful emulsions and hand-coat artist’s papers. Because anthotypes need hours and sometimes days of sun exposure to yield an image, instructor Jesseca Ferguson will demonstrate and discuss exposure methods and strategies so that you can continue the process at home using the papers prepared in our workshop. Nontoxic, low cost, and magically simple, the anthotype process appeals to gardeners, artists, teachers, and plant-loving experimenters. No previous art or photography experience necessary.
