Saturday, February 6, 2021—Wednesday, February 24, 2021
This program builds on your cumulative vocabulary, knowledge, and skills in plant identification and classification based on vegetative and reproductive structures. Arthur Haines, Senior Research Botanist at Native Plant Trust and author of Flora Novae-Angliae, will share a foundational overview of his work on plant nomenclature, phylogeny, and scientific names. From there, we delve into the breadth and complexity of plant identification. We will discuss hybridization and phylogeny to provide a deeper appreciation for the role of evolutionary history in understanding organismal relationships.
