Green in the Winterscape

A walk in the woods in the quiet of winter reveals a surprising number of plants that stay green through the cold season: lichens, mosses and liverworts, ferns, ericaceous shrubs and evergreen trees, and many more. Which plants stay green, how, and why? In this class, you will learn how to recognize and identify the groups of plants that are star attractions during the winter. We will also explore the plants’ evolution and strategies for year-round foliage.
